Question 7 - Exercise 7.1
(A long time resident)
Dear Editor-
I have seen/heard about the very inappropriate developments which have been undergoing in the Gold Coast/ Surfers Paradise area. This has really alarmed me to see how enormous and sticking out these developments are looking in our local area. Generally over recent history Surfers Paradise has only had low rise apartments which are most of the time not a problem as they are quite small compared to other cities and they have been built by taking the coastline into consideration. This new developments going on in Surfers Paradise are extremely tall, high rise buildings. Once completed they will become some of the worlds highest buildings. This is a problem becuase with such a large amount of high rise buildings the wind direction will be altered to the coastline as well as the immense shadows cast by the buildings. These are also bad because they block the view from the outer suburbs which had once unobstructed views of the coastline. But now once these buildings are finished they will be a large eyesore in the middle of the skyline. As well when they build these buildings they do not take into consideration about what damage they are doing to the natural ground and what things they will alter in terms of the coastline. I think that before the developers started construction they should of thought about the consequences of building a very inappropriate development.
Yours Truly,
Aashay Nandigam
