The Wasatch mountain front is a spectacular mountain range, part of the rocky mountains and is home to 5 gigantic ski resorts which is one of the main sources of tourism of this city. This mountain front encases Salt Lake City from both sides making the city trapped in the middle.
The great salt lake is the worlds second saltiest body of water after the dead sea due to the lake having no drainage outlets but many inlets to the lake. This lake is one of the largest in the U.S.A and is a major tourist attraction due to its vast area in which it covers and the pristine wildlife and landscape which surrounds the lake. It also makes the weather conditions change quite a lot due to the mass of water being trapped in between the Wasatch mountain ranges.
The Bingham Canyon, Kennecott Copper Mine is the worlds largest open pit copper mine and produces 2 thirds of all copper in which the U.S.A uses. This mine measures 4 miles wide and 3 quarters of a mile deep and is so large it is able to be seen from outer space. This mine keeps the city economically stable by the amount of money it pumps into the economy. The 2002 Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City and these games were boasted as one of the best winter Olympics in history due to its great facilities and the best quality snow on earth. After these games the venues built for the games are still popular for snow sports and the city benefits from the world class facilities at its doorstep.
The University of Utah or also known as U of U is one of the top universities in the United States and they have one of the best football teams in the country as well. The football team called the Utah Utes has won several nationwide games in 2005 and 2009 which is considered to be a great achievement. The university attracts students from all over central western United States. Their main stadium was also used in the 2002 winter Olympics opening/closing ceremony.
